Waiting For Spring…

This year we are all asking ourselves ‘Where is spring?’

I have lost count of the amount of times I have recently shovelled snow from my driveway in a bid to spend at least one day outside and not once again trapped in the house watching the imprisoning, but beautiful of course, flakes of snow fluff down and gently land on yesterdays hefty pile. It seems like since this side of Christmas I have seen more snow than in my entire childhood!

Well, there is hope now at last, no snow can keep down forever the determined little peaks of snowdrops and crocuses as they poke their way tentatively through the soil (err, snow I mean!) Soon, hopefully, the days of not knowing whether to brave your spring jacket and pumps, or stick with the safety and warmth of big winter coat and thick wool lined boots, for that daring leap outdoors into the fresh, spring (winter?) air, will soon be over. I for one am looking forward to freeing my feet from the confines of their wintery confinement and welcoming a fresh spring breeze through my toes.

All this confusion is pretty typical of the unpredictable Scottish weather. But we can’t deny that spring is in the air. When the birds are chirruping at 5.30am and there are rare sightings of kids playing on the swings in the local parks (braver than us!) then we know it must be happening at last. Daffodils are on their way, I promise!

To me, spring always seems like a time of renewal and revival. When you walk outside and see the fresh buds on the trees, the bright colours of the petals poking through the earth and the return of many birds to our gardens you can feel new life bursting around you. The excitement of new life and cycles of renewal does make you reflect on the year to come and what lies ahead. It is inevitable that the reinvigoration of the natural world infects us as we go about our business. Even those of us who live in cities can’t avoid the herald of spring: flowers blooming and trees budding in green spaces, hanging baskets on high streets coming back to life and birds tweeting overhead.

At Good Natured, we can’t help but feel rejuvenated in the spring, after all this is the time of year that our most popular products reappear on your local supermarket shelves. Our succulently tasty Tantalising Tomatoes will be making a reappearance in a couple of weeks and Succulent Strawberries will be back on shelves by the end of May. Sadly, the unpredictable weather this spring has meant that our salad and soft fruits have been delayed, denying us the truly juicy delight of that first annual bite of a Good Natured strawberry. Patience for a bit longer friends, because they are coming, and they are always worth the wait! Our yellow friends, Bantastic Bananas are on the shelves now, just waiting to be taken home and put into your fruit bowls across the country!

Written by a Good Natured gal, from and about the North East of Scotland (for those of you readers down south to whom daffodils are already a common sighting!).
